Kerikeri - What to see and do!

Kerikeri is a thriving, historic and culturally diverse town in the hub of the Bay of Islands, located only 5 minutes from the Bay of Islands airport with regular daily flights to and from Auckland.

The Stone Store, Kemp House and Rewa’s Village
You can take in the history of New Zealand’s birthplace in the Kerikeri Basin where you’ll find the famous Kerikeri Stone Store & Mission House (built in 1832), Mission House (built in 1822) and Rewa’s Maori Village.

Kerikeri Scenic Tracks
Only 20 minutes drive away you will find the Puketi Kauri Forest with its fantastic walkway among the native bush (Kauri, Taraire, Kohekohe, Towai and Northern Rata).
The Aka Aka Historic Reserve Track is another fantastic walkway with increadble views out to the Bay of Islands and of the Kerikeri inlet.
The Kerikeri Rainbow Falls track is another scenic walkway starting from the famous Stone Store up to Rainbow Falls, our beautiful local waterfall.

Biking Tracks
The Bay of Islands has a fantastic 72 kilometers long bike track which takes in some of the best Northland and Boy of Island landscapes, from farm life to beautiful beaches. The Twin Coast Cycle Trail is one of New Zealand’s 18 great mountain bike rides.

Out and About in Kerikeri
Kerikeri is a picturesque and interesting town with a lot always going on. You will find art galleries, boutique shopping (including Makana Confections, Living Nature & the Kauri Workshop), cinema, gourmet food, the Kerikeri Golf Course, health spas, the Sunday Farmers Market, The Parrot Place and live theatre at The Centre Theatre.

Eating out in Kerikeri
Kerikeri has a number of fantastic cafes, restaurants and wineries to eat out, including: The Pear Tree, Wharepuke, The Italians, Ake Ake, Black Olive, Rock Salt, Cafe Cinema, Curry King, Madly Indian, Chang Siam. Some local wineries would include: Marsden Estate, Ake Ake, Cottle Hill, The Fat Pig, Kainui and Kapiro.

Beaches in our Area
Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands have a number of fantastic beaches – some well known, all within 30 – 45 minutes drive from the Woodlands Motel (Matauri Bay, Opito Bay, Paihia Beach to name a few) as well as many beaches you will be able to discover on your own – and probably have the beach all to yourselves!

Bay of Islands - What to see and do!

With Kerikeri being a key town in the Bay of Islands it is a perfect location to explore what this beautiful area has to offer. It is a pleasant 20 minute drive to Waitangi and Paihia that offer a wide range of water based and historical activities.

You can also easily explore the coastline north of Kerikeri to stunning beach locations such as Matauri Bay, TeNgaire Bay, Tauranga Bay, Opito Bay – just to name a few or venture inland to the Puketi Forest to view impressive native bush and Kauri trees, Wairere Boulders or the Kawiti glow worm caves.
